In With The New!

I'm trying something new!

I've been doing paleo style eating for a while now which has been awesome. Not a huge transition from the way I normally eat anyway since I'm not a huge fan of pastas, breads or dairy. But now I'm going to change it even more. I'm going to try paleo/zone. For those of you that don't know what the zone diet is, it's a very calculated way of eating. You weight and measure your food and there are very specific amounts in each block that you are suppose to eat. A block is macro nutrients (protein, carbs and fats) that are broken down.. So 7 grams of protein is considered a block, 9 grams of carbs is a block and 1.5 grams of fat is a block. You can go to this awesome CrossFit Journal link and it breaks it down a little more for you and gives you your range of how many blocks you would pick. For my lunch today I had a 3 block lunch. Which means I chose 3 blocks of food/s from the protein, carbs, and fat columns and put them together. This is 4.5 oz of ground bison, 2 cups tomatoes, and 4 cups of a spinach/arugula mix, and 9 almonds. (Not pictured)
Why am I trying this? Well, a good friend of mine Laura from fitnesslulu.com has been posting about her own journey with paleo/zone and seeing her progress has inspired me to give it a try. It's a great way to lose extra weight while still maintaining the muscle that you have. My challenge with this is to also make sure I'm getting enough food in to continue to build muscle since that is my ultimate goal along with improved performance as a CrossFit athlete.

Although I will be posting these types of meals/recipes I will also continue to post some others that are not this diet specific, since my family won't be eating this way lol. So please continue to follow and check out the new recipes to come!

  1. I can't wait to hear how it goes. Please keep us updated. I would love to try this but I work 50 hours a week so I have a hard time having all this food available and coming up with what to eat. I look forward to your recipes and meals.
