Hey guys!
So obviously it's been a while since my last post. Sorry about that! I am hoping to get a new recipe out to you this week. In the mean time, I thought I would just tell you about some quick snack ideas that I like to do pre and post workout. So before you workout you really want to get in some protein and healthy fat. Depending on how long before your workout your planning on eating will kind of go along with how much you should eat or if maybe you should just take like half of a protein shake.
For example, when I'm about an hour out from going to the gym I will have about 3 or 4 slices of AppleGate lunch meat and a handful of almonds or some beef jerky and an apple. This is a nice enough snack to keep off hunger but also fuel me for whatever I'm about to do. If I only had about a half hour before I was gonna work out and I'm not able to get to whole foods I'll do half of a protein shake so I at least have something in my system because I don't know about you guys but I can't operate correctly or even concentrate when I'm hungry.
After I work out I'll finish the rest of my protein shake and maybe have a LaraBar or mango or even a banana. The sugars from these fruits and the bar will help to move the protein into the muscles and because they are higher in carbs they give you that bit of a re-feed you need after really crushing your workout. If I actually get to go home after I workout I might have the recipe I posted before of the mango and rice or some fried plantains.
Keep in mind guys, I'm not counting these as actual meals but more like snacks for fueling and re-fueling. I will still have had a full lunch before my pre-gym snack, and I will still be eating a full dinner after my post gym snack. I hope you found this helpful and gives you some ideas on what to be eating before and after you work out.
